John Buchan (26 August 1875 - 11 February 1940)

John Buchan

A clergyman’s son educated at the universities of Glasgow & Oxford before being called to the Bar in 1901. He is famous for writing ‘The Thirty-nine Steps’ popularised by Alfred Hitchcock in his film of the same name. Buchan served as the 15th Governor General of Canada from 1935 until his death in 1940, at the age of 64.
