Clan Carnegie Tartans

The Carnegie tartan is said to be a variant of the MacDonnell of Glengarry said to have been adopted by James Carnegie 5th Earl of Southesk who was active in the 1715 rebellion. The only difference seems to be that the Glengarry white becomes yellow in the Carnegie. However, it is possible that this minor difference was caused by the passage of time.

The term 'ancient' refers to the dye shades, normally lighter, whereas 'modern' refers to darker dyes having been used.
