Registration notes: The first published version of the tartan appeared in the Vestiarium Scoticum (VS), a romantic history of Scottish dress produced in 1842 by the Sobieski brothers. explain the origin of the design. This pattern is one of the few in the VS that can be dated to the 18th century. The Scottish Tartans Authority holds an Unnamed 18th century specimen of this pattern that was collected in the N. W, Highlands in the 1870s by the Scottish Folklorist Alexander Carmichael. A c1880 collection of commercial tartans called the Clans Originaux names this ‘Erskine Green’, not to be confused with the ‘Erskine, Hunting’.
