Clan Napier People

Sir Alexander Napier (circa 1440)
Sir Alexander Napier became Lord Provost of Edinburgh. He was wounded while rescuing the widow of James I from rebels who had captured her and her second husband. He was rewarded by James II who made his Controller of the Royal Household in 1440, and Vice Admiral of Scotland in 1461.


John Napier



John Napier (1550 – 4 April 1617)
John Napier was the celebrated inventor of logarithms and was considered to be the greatest mathematician of his age. He was also renowned for being an advanced agriculturist.

Francis Napier (15 September 1819 – 19 December 1898)
Francis Napier was a gifted academic who received degrees from the Universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Harvard. As a diplomat he served as British Minister to the United States, Netherlands, Russia, Prussia, and as the Governor of Madras. Napier was a friend of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America during the US Civil War. He also served as acting Viceroy of India in 1872.
